A plate can fall during removal or rail placement. Looking intact does not remove the need to assess the event.

Visual inspection

  1. Look for cracks, separation or bulging at edges and corners.
  2. Note moisture, sweating or seepage marks on the surface.

Limits of observation

No visible sign confirms internal condition. Record findings and circumstances; follow model instructions and authorised review to determine use.

Keep it out of use

Mark and isolate the plate until checked. Model instructions or the maintenance and quality process should set any wait period or thaw method.

If goods were contacted

If the plate fell onto goods or packaging, record contact location and damage. Do not assume acceptability in the field; refer it to quality.

Drop record

Record plate ID, time and place, known height, observations and photos. Do not guess unknown details.

Handling arrangements. Use workplace methods such as a dry grip and two-handed carrying. Choose gloves and aids under task instructions and risk assessment.

An intact appearance alone is not a clearance for use. Record the drop and keep the plate separate until review is complete.

Marking

Mark the plate ID and pending review; enter the record where the responsible team can see it. This helps prevent accidental return to stock.

If seepage is found inside

If seepage is found inside a container, log container and goods details and notify quality. The authorised team follows instructions for cleaning and product decisions.
