Packaging and palletisation shape unloading preparation; shipments may not all arrive the same way. At order confirmation, ask for package count, dimensions, gross weight, lifting method, protection and whether materials are single-use or returnable.
Compare the plan with dock clearance, forklift attachment and warehouse access. Do not assume height, pallet suitability or crew size; request a current packing drawing or photos from the supplier.
At receipt, photograph the outer packaging before opening, count against the packing list and add discrepancies to the order record that day. Assign an owner and follow-up date for waste and pallet returns.
