To assign warehouse or terminal energy to a shipment, first define which site and activities are included. Do not merge vehicle fuel with building and handling energy into one unexplained total.
Match records from the same period
Collect electricity and fuel bills, submeter readings where available, and site activity records for the same reporting period. Use site plans and equipment records to verify which areas use refrigeration, lighting or handling equipment.
Explain the allocation key
When linking total use to cargo, the chosen measure, such as handled quantity or time in storage, should represent the activity being calculated and follow your method. If zones are not separately metered, label the estimated split and retain its key, assumptions and data gaps.
For a sample shipment, link facility in and out times, cargo quantity and the allocation rule to a traceable record. This lets the next period be compared using the same boundary and method.
