On a used refrigerated vehicle, mileage and unit hours describe different histories. Hours alone do not prove wear, fault-free operation or remaining life; assess the vehicle using records and a technical inspection.
Reconcile meters and documents
List mileage, unit hours, operating modes and service dates separately. Compare a meter photograph with service invoices; if the meter was replaced or reset, ask for its date and supporting document. Mark unexplained differences for verification before purchase.
Use the hours ratio as a question, not a verdict
Dividing mileage by operating hours may offer a clue about past use; do not treat any ratio as a good, bad or remaining-life threshold. Stop-start work, waiting, operating mode, maintenance and unit model all affect interpretation.
Record the functional test's starting condition, ambient conditions, setpoint, sensor positions and door openings. Arrange the test with a qualified service provider under the exact model's manufacturer procedure; one unloaded result alone does not prove loaded performance or body insulation.
