Every time the container is opened, humid air gets in, drops its moisture on the cold surface and, at freezing temperatures, the water turns to ice without staying liquid. GEBHARDT notes that frequent or long lid openings affect the temperature in the container. Frost is not harmless: on the plate surface it slows heat transfer, on the gasket it stops the lid closing fully, and falling onto product it wets the packaging.
Look at where the ice sits:
- On the lid and gasket: lid seating and gasket gaps.
- On the base: drain and shell damage.
- Everywhere: were product, packaging and plates loaded dry?
Frost is removed by letting the container thaw at room temperature, not by scraping; a metal tool scores the shell. After thawing the container is wiped and left with the lid open. Isotec TBX can be cleaned by hand, with a pressure washer or in an automatic wash line, and water does not enter the insulation layer.
If ice keeps the lid from closing or forms again in the same place after cleaning, label the container and report it for maintenance with photos. The lasting fix is in the routine: load so the product comes out in one movement, keep the next drop on top and do not open the lid unnecessarily in the depot.
