Do not infer responsibility for a scratch, failure or loss on rented equipment from a general rule; the signed contract and handover evidence matter.
Record the starting condition in an asset-identified schedule; link dated photos of body, lid, gasket, castors, shelves and accessories. Have both parties sign or note exceptions.
Check for definitions of ordinary wear, notice deadline, joint inspection or dispute process, repair approval authority, parts/labor calculation and any loss charge. Clarify ambiguous items in writing before signing.
At return, use the same checklist and views; log new findings separately. For a charge dispute, link dated photos, handover report, maintenance record and contract clause in one file.
Insurance cover is separate from contractual responsibility. Confirm rented-equipment cover, excess and notice conditions with the insurer.
