Article 4 of the AİTM regulation requires two conditions together: a special function performed during carriage, and the body arrangement or equipment that function needs. In a cold transport vehicle the function is holding the temperature regime, and the equipment is the insulated body and the refrigeration unit.

The definition classifies the vehicle, while the category letter hands out the additional provisions. That is why an N1 and an N2 vehicle doing the same job face different lists.

  • An audible warning working with reverse gear is mandatory on M2, M3, N2 and N3 vehicles (Article 20).
  • The 10 km/h speed limiter for tippers is not required on N1 vehicles (Article 15).
  • Window film on M, N and O vehicles is subject to additional rules (Article 14).

The answer to when a refrigerated vehicle is necessary depends not only on the product but on the category of the vehicle you already have.

A vehicle bought as a chassis and bodied later is an incomplete vehicle, and under Article 8 it cannot be permanently registered until it is completed. The bodywork quote therefore carries the category, type, variant and version from the registration, because versions in different categories are sold under the same model name.
