When the melting point marking on a plate wears off

On GEBHARDT plates the closure colour, size and article number recover the melting point; if the three do not agree, the plate stays out of use.

Short answer

GEBHARDT eutectic plates come in four melting points (-3, -14, -18, -21 °C), told apart by closure colour: red, yellow, green, blue. When the print has gone, compare the closure colour, the plate size and the article number in the purchase record; if all three agree, the plate goes back to its regime. If they do not, it is kept apart from the sets and confirmed through Aris Makina.

In the GEBHARDT range plates come in four melting points, and the closure colour shows the point. Size is the second clue: 480 x 280 x 34 mm exists at every point, 615 x 378 x 34 mm only at -3 and -21 °C.

If the colour, the size and the article number in the purchase record agree, the plate goes back to its regime and is re-marked. If one is missing or they contradict, the plate is set aside, because a wrong regime has a direct effect: freezing is done at least 5 °C below the melting point, and a -21 °C plate stays liquid at -8 °C.
