Glove selection for cold work should be assessed with temperature conditions and required dexterity; thickness alone does not show suitability.
Describe the task
- Using a small latch or safety part.
- Writing and applying labels.
- Using a phone or handheld terminal.
- Opening packing tape.
Observe the workflow
Verify through procedure which steps must take place in the cold area. If records or labels can be handled outside, assess the task flow with the responsible person.
Assessing layers
Trial liner and outer gloves only if model instructions and risk assessment permit. Do not assume the hand should be exposed or for how long.
Contact with frozen surfaces. If skin contact or loss of grip occurs, follow the stop-work and reporting procedure. Record the event and surface conditions.
Does the glove suit the task?
Match PPE to the task, environment, user and maker instructions; have a site assessment confirm suitability.
Wet gloves
If wetness or damage is found, follow the local PPE procedure for replacement and review. Add date, model and finding to the form.
Terminals and screens. If screen use is required, check function with suitable gloves in a site trial. If incompatible, agree a safe task sequence with the responsible person and record it.
