In a cold store, racking carries loads and affects airflow. Assess capacity from manufacturer documents and air paths from the actual layout and measurements.

Solid and open deck surfaces. Check whether sheet, perforated or mesh decks suit pallets, products and cleaning needs. Verify airflow effects with measurements after installation.

Include walls, ceiling and aisles in the plan

Review rack position against evaporator discharge, return air, doors, aisles and cleaning access on the site drawing. Confirm clearances against equipment and building specifications.

Do not assume airflow; measure at product locations.

Assess material and finish

Compare finishes with moisture, condensation, cleaning agents and use conditions through the supplier. Include cleanability in food-area purchasing criteria.

Access effects of mobile racking

Assess pallet capacity, access frequency, aisle plan and maintenance access together. Plan a trial using actual picking movements.

Set layout by stock movement. Place frequently picked stock to fit door and work flows; observe pallets waiting at the doorway. Record whether layout changes door traffic or temperature profiles.

Capacity documents and used-rack checks

Check labels, maker model, beam and upright damage and connections. Get load values in writing; do not infer capacity from appearance.
