Cold chain work can span the frozen goods area, preparation section and dock. Logging trips during a shift can reveal avoidable crossings.
Observe crossings first
For one shift, record cold area entries, time and task on a tally sheet. Task type helps compare days.
Notice damp clothing
Observe whether workers returning to a warm area have damp clothing. Review clothing and breaks against the risk assessment and equipment in use.
Find repeated trips
- Where allowed, plan plate and container tasks for one visit.
- Prepare record or label information before reaching the door.
- Group tasks going in the same direction into one trip.
Door and crossing point
Observe door closure and movement through the crossing. For curtain solutions, check door technical information, maintenance requirements and site procedure.
Access to drinking water
Show in the shift plan where workers access drinking water. The point should fit hygiene and operating rules.
A designated place for clothing
Check where cold area clothing is kept and whether it stays dry. Check that its location fits the layout and hygiene rules.
Compare crossing counts
Example: if labels prompted three entries in one shift, prepare information beforehand and group the task. Count crossings and waiting work again next shift.
