When exports grow, should you compare tonnes or value?

Match net weight with dollar value for the same product group and period; do not treat an early interim release as a full period.

Short answer

Compare tonnes and revenue only for the same product group, geography and reporting periods. Take net kilograms and dollar value from an official exporter table; check release date and period end. Review value per net kilogram for price or mix effects, but do not infer more shipments or capacity needs from it alone.

Tonnes and dollars measure different things. For a fair comparison, use the same product classification, exporting geography and year-on-year period.

TİM stopped publishing sub-product-group tables from April 2025 due to data inconsistencies; this does not mean all TİM data stopped. Use the relevant exporters' association report for subgroup detail. Record net-weight unit, currency and publication date.

Divide dollar value by net kilograms for unit value. Investigate price, exchange-rate and product-mix effects; measure shipment count and your own capacity separately.
