An end-of-shift plate discrepancy is resolved by reviewing the day's movement records, not just the inventory count. Keep opening and closing counts on the same shift sheet.

Build the movement reconciliation first. Log opening balance, plates fitted or removed, units sent for washing, quarantined as damaged and transfers between areas with counts and times. Derive the expected closing balance from these movements.

Trace the difference from its last known point

Check the last recipient and movement slip at vehicles, customer returns, washing and loading areas. Mark both sending and receiving locations at each transfer to avoid counting a plate twice.

Hand over unresolved differences

Record the discrepancy with run, shift and last-known location; do not close it as corrected. Notify the owner and hand the open task to the next shift in writing. Fix the flow step if discrepancies recur.
