Insulation creates the difference between the external size and usable interior space.
Compare each dimension
Use the manufacturer table’s inner and outer width, depth and height for the same model. Check fittings and lid dimensions separately.
Calculate all three dimensions. Multiplying external dimensions gives the vehicle envelope; internal dimensions estimate usable volume.
| Plan | Dimension to use |
|---|---|
| Vehicle layout | External dimensions |
| Product loading | Internal dimensions |
| Door clearance | External width and height |
Body allowance can take a larger share of small models; calculate from the model table.
Do not compare a warehouse cold room and portable container as if they share one footprint measure.
The volume ratio is one of the first sets of figures to look at when making a comparison of the two arrangements.
Cross-check catalogue information
Compare the product of internal dimensions with stated litre capacity. Ask the supplier about units, rounding or measurement scope if they differ.
Choose by intended use
Match inner capacity to the product plan and the outer envelope to vehicle, doorway and storage clearances.
