Article 20 of Türkiye's Regulation on the Manufacture, Modification and Assembly of Vehicles (AİTM) requires an audible warning that works with reverse gear on M2, M3, N2 and N3 vehicles. The rule is tied to a date, and the date that counts is that of the base-vehicle certificate of conformity, not the model year.
| Category | Vehicle | Base-vehicle certificate |
|---|---|---|
| N3 | Trucks and tractors over 12 t | After 1/10/2017 |
| M3 | Buses over 5 t | After 1/10/2017 |
| N2 | Trucks of 3.5-12 t | After 15/5/2018 |
| M2 | Minibuses and buses up to 5 t | After 15/5/2018 |
The article applies to vehicles approved under the AİTM: individually or multi-stage approved vehicles, vehicles fitted with a body and modified vehicles. N1 panel vans and light trucks with a maximum mass up to 3.5 tonnes fall outside it, so an N1 and an N2 vehicle in the same fleet carry different obligations. When buying used, the first thing to check is the date on the base-vehicle certificate.
Across time spent on the dock, reversing and door opening pile into the same minutes.
The device has its own condition
Under the article's second sentence, the fitted warning device must conform to the Turkish type-approval regulation on vehicle electromagnetic compatibility (72/245/EEC) or UN/ECE Regulation 10. A cheap reversing buzzer with no approval makes a noise but does not meet this condition. Article 8 of the AİTM adds that test reports for parts used in assembly are checked by the approval body, so the make, model and approval number of the device belong in the vehicle file.
