Widening a delivery window is more than scheduling an earlier arrival. First agree with the receiver when, where and under what conditions a closed delivery can be accepted.

Define the waiting area and handover point

Document where the container will be left, who can access it, how product will be protected and when delivery responsibility transfers. Add receiver hours and who reads the record at handover.

Trial a representative longest wait

In a controlled route trial consistent with product and container instructions, log dispatch, early arrival, waiting and delivery times. Position a sensor at a representative point with the product and document the temperature profile and whether the container was opened.

Review the result with the receiver against written acceptance criteria. If product conditions or a suitable waiting area cannot be evidenced, do not widen the window; first change the transport arrangement or handover process and repeat the trial.
