Equipment travels a long way, from factory to port, through customs and inland haulage, and damage can occur along it. Responsibility follows the delivery term and the insurance policy, but both work only if the damage was recorded in time and correctly. The record says three things: which part is damaged and how, when it was noticed relative to delivery, and what the packaging looked like. Damage inside sound-looking packaging is a different case, and the period runs accordingly.

Photograph the general view before the packaging is opened, a close-up of any mark or tear on it, the damage close and wide, a readable serial number label and the delivery document; keep the packaging as evidence of hidden damage.

Notify the carrier and the seller at the same time. Notice after delivery must be in writing, e-mail counts, and sending it within the period is enough. Where the damage affects sealing or structure, the equipment is not used.
