Rack suitability is assessed through actual worker movement and plate use frequency. Do not assume a universal rack height or movement limit; review the workplace risk assessment.

Observe a shift

Note where a plate is retrieved and returned, which transport aid is used, and whether the worker reaches, bends or twists. Record near misses and dropped items too.

Arrange the rack around use patterns

Place frequently used plates and sets where safe access is possible. Consider weight, product instructions, rack capacity and worker feedback together.

Check the change again

After changing equipment or layout, observe the task again. Compare reaching, twisting, near misses and access to transport aids with the earlier record.

If observation identifies a problem, review the arrangement with the safety lead and workers. A count alone does not prove ergonomic suitability or a health outcome.
