A temperature alarm starts an investigation; by itself it does not determine whether a product is usable. Sensor placement, a data gap or a brief door opening may affect the notification. Review the alarm with product and lot information.

Verify the event first

Check the alarm time, sensor identity and location, and the recorded trace. Where possible, check the same area with another suitable, verified instrument. Record the sensor reading separately from the product's core temperature; do not use one as a substitute for the other.

Identify and segregate the lot

Use delivery, lot and location records to identify products that were in the cabinet or area during the event. Clearly mark and separate the lot from other goods until assessment is complete. Do not decide on dispatch or sale from the alarm chart alone.

Make the decision traceable

The responsible person should use current storage requirements for the product group and the site's procedure to record disposition. Release, withdrawal or another action depends on the product and applicable rules. Keep the time, measurement, lot, decision and decision-maker in the incident record.
