When a business starts delivering its chilled products with its own vehicle, the first question the Turkish road transport regulation asks is whether the carriage is for hire or on own account. Article 4 defines own-account carriage as moving, without commercial purpose, only goods connected with one's own main line of business. The moment another firm's goods enter the vehicle, the work becomes for-hire carriage and falls under K1.
| Certificate (Article 6) | Issued to | Minimum condition (Article 14) |
|---|---|---|
| K2 | Those carrying their own goods | 1 vehicle |
| K1 | Those carrying others' goods for payment | Natural person 1 vehicle and 25 tonnes, legal person 2 vehicles and 50 tonnes |
The point at which the certificate question turns into a decision is gathered under distributing your own product.
Applicants for K1 or K2 who will operate vans only need no capacity beyond one vehicle, and the certificate fee drops to a quarter. Since most urban distribution runs on vans, moving to a commercial certificate costs less than many expect. Certificates cannot be sold or transferred, and a vehicle not registered on the vehicle schedule is refused entry at loading and unloading points.
