The choice during a parts delay depends on more than the estimated number of days. Compare rental, backup equipment and rescheduling against the same daily delivery need.
Verify the wait estimate
Get the service estimate and its uncertainty in writing. Review actual downtime in past work orders too; do not treat one estimate as a guarantee.
Check the rental option. For the same dates and route, ask about availability, rate, extra terms, driver, fuel and temperature-record arrangements.
Trial equipment continuity
Record available containers and cold sources, preparation and return labour. Monitor product temperature on a representative trip and verify suitability for the load and stops.
Use the same cost table
Compare daily delivery volume, extra trips, labour, waiting and return costs for each option. Record the effect of an alternate route or delayed delivery separately if possible.
Reassess when conditions change
Update the comparison if the part is delayed or demand changes. Do not assume rental or equipment wins before product suitability and actual costs are known.
