In a refrigeration-unit failure, exposure should be measured separately from the repair bill. A delayed order, a transfer to another vehicle and a product disposition are distinct cost items.
Add to the incident record. Record failure start and finish, vehicle, route, affected orders, quantities delivered and undelivered, rerouting, repair and extra-trip costs.
Record product disposition separately
Link measurement records to product and lot. Let the authorised quality lead decide on redelivery, acceptance or disposal; do not record estimated quantities at risk as realised loss.
Do not confuse revenue with profit
Separate recovered or rescheduled orders from affected order value. Calculate financial impact using contribution and cost data used by accounting; gross sales alone are not a loss figure.
Use the record in maintenance planning
Aggregate downtime, extra cost and fault type across incidents. Compare these records with service quotes and backup plans; future avoided loss is not a proven saving.
